And that is most definitely the mantra of the Houn' Dawgs Tuesday night after escaping with a narrow 54-50 win at East Newton. Aurora (8-10, 2-1) led 11-8 after the first quarter and then outscored the Patriots 15-6 in the second, including an 11-2 run to open the second quarter, to take a 12-point cushion into the halftime locker room, 26-14. But in the third East Newton outscored Aurora by three, 13-10, and then the Patriots began to hit from outside in the final stanza, nailing three straight long-range treys to pull to within one late in the fourth. But the Houn' Dawgs shot just good enough from the free-throw line and caused two turnovers down the stretch to earn the Big 8 Conference win. Three Houn' Dawgs scored in double figures in the win, with Garrett Bader leading the way with 17. Corey Gregory added 12 off the bench and freshman Josh Fronabarger had 10, all in the first half. rodger posted: "The Aurora Lady Houn' basketball team will be hosting its annual Pink Zone game (now known as Play 4 Kay) on Thursday, Feb. 14, in order to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and other cancers. The Play 4 Kay game will be in the high school gym " New post on Houn Dawg Sports Pink Zone game February 14 by rodger The Aurora Lady Houn' basketball team will be hosting its annual Pink Zone game (now known as Play 4 Kay) on Thursday, Feb. 14, in order to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and other cancers. The Play 4 Kay game will be in the high school gym vs. Lamar. The girl's JV team will start off the night (5:30 p.m.) followed by the Varsity girl's and then the Varsity boy's team. The freshman and JV boys will be at junior high gym that night. Fans are being asked to come "decked out" in pink to support the DAWGS and CANCER. If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, Gary Crim has designed an amazing shirt for this years event. They are $10 each. Send size and money to me Kris Besch (Pate Elementary) by February 1. All money made off the shirts will go to the WBCA Cancer Foundation. A special donation will also be taken at the half of the varsity girls game. If you would like to honor or remember someone in the basketball program that has survived or died from cancer, send your name, honor/remembrance/and their name. Aurora got out of the gate early, scoring the game's first seven points. They never looked back from there, building a convincing 27-12 halftime lead. The scoring skyrocketed in the third period, with Seneca actually winning the quarter, 23-18. But the clock was the Lady Indian's biggest enemy in the final stanza, as they couldn't get closer than five. Rachel Parker broke out for the Lady Houn's, scoring a game-high 25 points. Jordan Hall added 12 and Shania Siegrist had 10. Hollister held a commanding 31-16 advantage at the half, but Aurora was able to chip away at that lead, getting the deficit all the way down to 7 in the third stanza, 37-30. But that is as close as they could get, falling 58-40. Aurora (6-8, 1-1) was led by Jordan Fronabarger and Andrew Parker, each scoring 10 points in the game. The dry spell came to open the fourth quarter when Mt. Vernon scored the first 12 points of the quarter to build a commanding 60-42 advantage. Aurora could not recover, as they ended up losing their first conference game of the season to Mt. Vernon, 73-53. Jordan Fronabarger led Aurora with 14, while Andrew Parker and Josh Fronabarger added 11 apiece. Garrett Bader had 10 to give the Houn' Dawgs four players in double figure scoring.
