The Aurora Houn' Dawgs traveled to Rogersville Monday night to open Class 4 District 11 play against Reeds Spring, a team they had defeated at the first of the season, but found that falling behind early often means to not being able to catch up in the end. Reeds Spring advanced, defeating Aurora 56-50.
An 8-0 run to start the game for Reeds Spring put them on top and headed in the right direction. Aurora's first score didn't come until the 1:41 mark of the opening stanza and by the time the first quarter buzzer sounded, the Houn's were down 10-4. By the half, the Wolves led Aurora 23-14.
Four straight turnovers by Aurora to open the second half let the Wolves extend their lead to 16, 30-14. Garrett Bader scored 7 of his team-high 22 points in the third quarter and senior Andrew Parker hit a long trey at the buzzer to keep Aurora's district hopes alive, as Aurora trailed by 7 at the third quarter buzzer, 38-31.
Things got a lot more exciting in the final period, as Aurora was able to chip away at the lead, even tying the score at 46-46 with three minutes left. But Aurora would never push themselves to a lead, eventually running out of time and ending their season with a 56-50 loss.
Along with Bader's 22 points, senior Jordan Fronabarger added 12.
Aurora finishes the season with an 11-14 record.
