Whoever said golf isn't a team sport had obviously never met the Aurora Houn' Dawgs, as the host of this year's Big 8 Conference golf tournament at Honey Creek Golf Course needed all members of this team at some point or another during the season, as four different members of the team had been the top Dawg at any given tournament. On Tuesday it was Nathan Mueller, who finished fourth overall with an 81, leading his team to a team championship score of 334. The Houn' Dawgs finished second last season, one stroke behind Mt. Vernon. That was one of just two tournaments Aurora didn't win last season, so revenge tasted sweet today.

"I'm so proud of their effort as a team today," said Aurora golf coach Brian Cox after the title. "They each got better as the day went on and they each continue to be better golfers."

The Lamar Tigers finished in second place, shooting a team score of 341, followed by Mt. Vernon, last year's winners, in third with a 356. Monett was fourth with 358, Cassville at 359, Carl Junction at 379 and Seneca with a 393.

Individual medalist was Seneca's Bradley Jumper, who worked himself through the rugged conditions, firing a 78. Cassville's Parker Skinner was second, shooting a 79.

"I was able to keep the ball in the fairway today," explained Jumper after his 18-holes. "The wind was tough but as long as I kept the ball in the fairway, I felt I was in pretty good shape."

Lamar's Logan McArthur finished in third with an 80. Aurora's Mueller was fourth overall.

Aurora's top player, Grant Seifried struggled with the conditions, finishing tenth overall with an 86.

"I couldn't hit my driver today," said Seifried. "I putted o.k. but the driver was bad and I didn't handle the conditions very well. It was not a good day for a round of golf."
