The Purdy Lady Eagles put together a 9-hit barrage against the host Aurora Lady Houn's Thursday night, and that would be plenty to down Aurora 9-3. Senior pitcher Carleigh Hall got the win for the Lady Eagles, going five innings and giving up four of Aurora's six hits.

Aurora committed several errors in the game, including two in the first to give junior Billie House the chance to plate Purdy's first run on a sacrifice fly to left field. The second run of the first inning scored on a wild pitch by Aurora senior Baylee Hilton, and then Andrea Humphrey doubled with two outs, but was stranded there.

Purdy added two more runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a single by sophomore Abby Parsons.

The Lady Houn's finally scored a couple of runs of their own in the bottom of the third frame after Paige Carr led off with a walk, followed by a single to left field for Hilton. Hailey Paulson then singled to load the bases for Aurora. Sophomore Kelsey Martin was hit by a pitch to score the first run and a sacrifice fly from Logan Dunning scored the second run.

Aurora got to within one run when they plated one in the bottom of the fourth, but a 4-run fifth for the Lady Eagles put the game out of reach. Skylar Lakey had a lead off single in the fifth for Purdy, making it five innings in a row the Lady Eagles had successfully put the lead off runner on base. Parson's double later in the inning made her the team's MVP on the night.

"We have been working really hard on our hitting," said Purdy head coach Stephanie Ray. "Tonight out first three hitters did their job by getting on base and our four, five and six hitters did their job by driving them in."

Aurora finished the game with six base hits and six fielding errors, a statistic head coach James Hoffman knows will have to improve.

"We didn't do much to help ourselves on the defensive side," he said. "We will make some adjustments and get better."

Purdy's coach Ray knows they too will need to improve as the season gets going.

"We didn't capitalize in some situations that we needed to," she said. "That will come with experience."
