Game Summary
An early back and forth contest turned into a hard fought, but decisive opening game win for the Aurora Houn' Dawgs. Ava began the game on offense but was forced to punt after a 3 and out. Aurora took their first possession and drove 52 yards to start the early scoring. William Blankenship capped the drive with an 11 yard touchdown run.
In thesecond quarter Ava drove into Houn' Dawg territory and then scored their first touchdown on a blocked pass that pinballed off of defenders and into the waiting arms of the Ava receiver for a 27 yard score. Aurora answered with a Clayton Sumners 1 yard touchdown run.
Ava drove the ball well in the second half, but faced a stiff Houn' Dawg defense inside the red zone and was kept scoreless the rest of the evening. Meanwhile, the Houn' Dawgs padded their lead on touchdown runs by Everett Basham and Clayton Sumners.
For the game, Everett Basham led all rushers with 156 yards. Aurora is 1-0 and will travel to East Newton to face the 0-1 Patriots, who lost to Springfield Catholic last week.
