Aurora vs. Rogersville recap

Missouri State High School Football Playoffs
November 2, 2011
Records 1ST 2ND 3RD 4TH Final
Aurora 6-5 0 6 0 0 6
Rogersville 10-1 7 0 14 7 28

Game Summary
The Aurora Houn' Dawgs extended their season into the Missouri High School playoffs with a victory over their archrivals, the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers, 24-8 in the 2011 version of the Bell Bowl. The win set up a chance for Aurora to play their fourth game against a state-ranked opponent , this time in the form of a 9-1 Logan-Rogersville team. Continuing a season long trend in those games, Aurora could not overcome costly turnovers at inopportune times as Rogersville ended the Houns' 2011 campaign by a score of 28-6.
The Wildcats blended a balanced running and passing attack to frustrate the Houns. Evan Gruener proved to be the difference as he passed for 192 yards and 2 Touchdowns, while the potent running combination of Joel Zimmer and Dylan Cole were limited to only 110 yards total on the night.
Aurora received the kickoff to start the game and were able to move the chains on their first possession, but inevitably had to punt. Rogersville tried their hand at offense and also had to punt. The teams traded possessions once again before Rogersville found the end zone at the end of the first quarter on a Dylan Cole 1 yard TD run. The Houns would answer in the 2nd quarter. Facing a fourth and goal from the Rogersville 2 yard line, Clayton Sumners was flushed from the pocket but was able to find Michael Helms in the back of the end zone to close the gap. Aurora failed on their 2 point conversion try to bring the score 7-6 in favor of Rogersville as both teams retired to their locker rooms for halftime.
Rogersville received the ball first in the second half, but Aurora was able to stop their attack and got the ball back early in the third quarter. The Houn's drove the field and looked to be physically outmuscling the Wildcats. Kurt Hadlow, Michael Helms and Everett Basham gashed the Wildcats for runs of 12, 16 and 16 yards before stalling inside the red zone. The Wildcats came up with a big interception on their 1 yard line to snuff out the Houn Dawgs advance.
Logan-Rogersville seemed to catch their second wind at this point and took advantage of a stunned Houn Dawg team to cash in for 2 third quarter scores to bring the score to 21-6. The Wildcats added another score in the 4th quarter to close out the game 28-6.
Everett Basham led all rushing with 193 yards on 34 carries, while Clayton Sumners contributed 89 yards through the air as well as a TD pass.
The Houn Dawgs season came to a close with the defeat, but it capped a second season that they were able to post a winning record with 6 victories. It was the second time in three years that the Houns' had qualified for the postseason which fuels hope for continued success in the years to come. 13 Seniors will be departing the program and should be proud of their contributions to revitalizing a very proud football program.
The Houn Dawgs are coached by:
Head Coach – Rick Scholten
Assistant Coaches – Kanin Rook, Philip Montgomery, Chris Norris, Craig Weldy, Todd Campbell, Dan Jesch and Eric Lenox
The Houn Dawg coaching staff would like to thank their very vocal and supportive fan base who represented Aurora and their community as well and as proudly as their football team.

Aurora vs. Catholic

Class 3 District 10 Contest

Aurora ----0----0----7----0 7
Spfld Catholic ----0----0----0---10 10
Final

Game Summary
The Aurora Houn Dawgs traveled to Springfield on Friday to play their second game in Class 3 District 10 play. The 5-3 Houns' faced a 6-2 Springfield Catholic team that is ranked #7 in Missouri Class 3. Both teams had an identical 1-0 record in district play. For football fans, it was a very exciting game that came down to the last play in regulation to decide a winner.
Springfield Catholic won the toss and deferred possession until the second half. Aurora was up to the task as they drove the field against the Irish gaining good yardage. An intercepted pitch stopped the Houns' drive. Aurora stuffed the Irish and this back and forth prevailed throughout the entire first half. Everett Basham intercepted a pass that was tipped by Josh McCulloch on one drive and Michael Helms intercepted another pass on a Jesse Galloway tipped pass as the Irish were attempting to punch in the go ahead score in the second quarter. Aurora's defense was strong and was able to hold a strong Catholic team to no points and only 40 yards in the first half. The teams went into halftime tied 0-0.
Catholic received the kickoff in the second half and the Dawgs cut their opening drive short and proceeded to take control of a long drive on strong runs by Everett Basham and Austin Lenox. Clayton Sumners completed a 12 yard pass to Michael Helms that gave the Houns the opportunity to be in the red zone. Everett Basham punched in a score from the 1 yard line and Tyler Denney made the PAT attempt to give the Houns' a 7-0 lead.
Catholic answered the Houns' with a 35 yard pass play that got the Irish into the red zone. Catholic scored shortly after to make it 7-7. Catholic then was able to drive to the Aurora 11 yard line but settled for a 28 yard field goal to make it 10-7. Aurora had 3:35 left to move down the field. Sumners completed a 12 yard pass Jordan Fronaberger and then on fourth down converted a 10 yard pass to Austin Lenox to keep Aurora's hopes alive. Sumners connected with Fronaberger for 4 yards and then made 2 completions to Andrew Parker for 10 yards and 9 yards to get to the Catholic 10 yard line. With 4 seconds left, Sumners passed into the end zone but it fell incomplete as the Dawgs lost a heartbreaker.
For the game Aurora out gained the Fighting Irish 202-140 on the ground and threw for 105 yards while Catholic could only muster 42. The Dawgs will play their rival, the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers on Thursday, October 27th with a trip to the State Playoffs on the line. It is Senior Night and the last guaranteed home game of the year.

Game Summary
The Aurora Houn' Dawgs traveled to Cassville on Friday, September 16th for a Big 8 Conference tilt. Aurora was looking for some payback on the defending conference champs and it looked like the Dawgs were up to the task physically. However, an early turnover led to a Kyle Brattin 10 yard TD run. The Dawgs had difficult field position for much of the second quarter and a blocked Aurora punt gave Cassville the ball on the Houns' 8 yard line. Ricky Nichols cashed in on the next play for a 14-0 lead going into halftime.
Aurora kicked off to start the 2nd half and stood toe to toe with Cassville for the rest of the game. Aurora drove the ball into the red zone a couple of times, but was not able to put points on the board. The only other Cassville score was on a 57 yard quick slant pass to Trey Rose that allowed Cassville to have a 21-0 cushion.
Aurora went to the passing game in the 4th quarter and chewed up a lot of yardage on their way to their first and only score, an 11 yard touchdown pass from Clayton Sumners to Andrew Parker. Aurora outgained the Wildcats offensively, 283 yards to Cassville's 225. Final score 21-7 Cassville.

Aurora answered quickly with a 15 yard touchdown run by Everett Basham. A Manuel Rios extra point tied the game at 7. Lamar would score again on the first of 3 Markel White TD's on the evening, a 1 yard scamper. Aurora answered with a 65 yard Everett Basham TD run. Score 13-13.

Web sites

Coaches and AD's ,

I have recently completed web sites for each school in the listening area, 96 total, and within those sites put schedules that I have recieved.  At this point the sites are set up for the AD's to have content posting that can be made available to coaches of all sports.  It is a simple process which will allow coaches to post box scores from any event in which they play, post upcoming events, makeup dates and whatever information they would like the public to know.  This information will be instantly available to any media outlet, and with knowledge post can be directly sent to up to 8 different sources including the AD via email.  I still would encourage those coaches to text me the final score for the Scoreboard Shows and Hilites shows, and Chevy Dealers of the Ozarks has stepped up to sponsor a male and female Athlete of The Week, those nominations will need to be made to the school page by Monday of the Following Week.  Period will Start on Monday end on Saturday, nominations due monday following and announcement saturday following as follows for the first month of the season:  remember it is a male and female athlete.

AD's must contact me on an individual basis to gather posting information for both their school page information and to nominate an athlete for the award, I will due my best to gather information from all sources possible to provide to the selection committee, but it will be more likely seen if it is posted to your school page.  And I promise this will be simple.  Questions please call me and I will breifly explain the process, 417-327-6914
